Movie Picker
Background
This project started in my COMP 350, Software engineering, class where I created an app named Decision Maker with three other students. In this app there was a section that had functionality similar to this website but with much worse presentation and far fewer features. I decided to create this website for my capstone because I found working with REST API very interesting in a swift application and I wanted to see if it was possible to expand on what had been done and make it more accessible in a website as opposed to a purely mobile application.
Users of this application have the ability to filter media they are shown by many categories. I will likely continue adding features to this project even after the final capstone presentation and the most updated version of the application will be at https://shanemcd.net/MoviePicker/.
The main use case for this application is finding a movie or TV show to watch when you don’t know what you should see. It is helpful for introducing you popular media you were unaware of on streaming platforms that you have access to.
Bio
My name is Shane McDonough and I am graduating from California State University Channel Islands in December of 2023. I know Rust, C, C#, Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and spend much of my free time working on side-projects. I like creating web apps because they can be accessed and showcased anywhere on almost any device. That kind of accessibility is why I made Movie Picker a web application. I think its great it can be accessed on any computer or phone without any need for download.
